Delivery

All rats and mice orders are packed in filtered, plastic shipping containers within their Barrier Unit of origin. The shipping containers are called Taconic Transit Cages™ (TTC™) and are designed to provide the optimal shipping environment for today’s sophisticated rats and mice. Your order will include a charge for the appropriate number of TTC™.

All rabbits and guinea pigs are packed in larger shipping containers appropriate for their species.

An additional charge will be added based on transport and delivery costs.

Animal Health Status

InVivos shall follow the health monitoring procedures and standards established by Taconic as their International Health Monitoring System™ (IHMS™) (see www.taconic.com)

Murine Pathogen Free™ (MPF™)

MPF™ rats and mice are monitored to verify that they do not harbor microorganisms that are known to be pathogenic under a variety of study conditions. MPF™ animals are free of Helicobacter sp. (H. bilis, H. hepaticus, H. rodentium, H. typhlonius, H. trogontum, H. muridarium*), Parvoviruses, Pasteurella pneumotropica and other pathogenic organisms. A description of the IHMS™ microbial monitoring procedures for MPF™ rodents may be found at www.taconic.com

Restricted Flora™ (RF™)

RF™ animals harbor a wide variety of commensal microorganisms in their flora but the animals and their environment are intensively monitored to detect the presence of specific opportunistic bacteria that can be pathogenic in immunocompromised rodents. The animals are maintained in Barrier Units utilizing IVC technology to protect the animals from opportunistic organisms. The quality control laboratory screens monthly for 5 additional organisms that are not accepted in the RF™ colonies: Beta haemolytic Streptococcus species, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Klebsiella oxytoca, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Staphylococcus aureus. A description of the IHMS™ microbial monitoring procedures for the RF™ rodents may be found at www.taconic.com

Conventional

The rabbits and guinea pigs are bred under barrier conditions in what used to be called the NUS CARE-2 facility.
